Phantoms snap four-game skid

MUSKEGON, MICH.

The Youngstown Phantoms’s first shootout victory of the season snapped a four-game streak.

Jason Cotton’s shootout goal lifted the Phantoms to a 4-3 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday night.

The Phantoms rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime. Kris Myllari’s second goal of the game was followed by James Winkler’s goal to set up the bonus session.

In the shootout, Phantoms goaltender Ryan Bednard stopped all three shots by the Lumberjacks.

Matej Paulovic’s 17th goal gave the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead.

Myllari’s first goal came off a rebound after Cam Morrison fired the puck at Lumberjack’s goaltender Joey Daccord.

Mitch Eliot and Paulovic scored for Muskegon’s two-goal advantage.

Both teams had chances to end the game in overtime, including a power play for Muskegon and a penalty shot for Phantoms captain Matt Alvaro.

The Phantoms will wrap up a six-game road trip today against Team USA’s 18-under team in Ann Arbor, Mich. They will play Team USA on Saturday at the Covelli Centre.
