“Crisis in the Valley,” the latest movie by Niles filmmaker David L. Walker, will get its premiere Sunday with a 4 p.m. screening at Encore Cinema.
Walker wrote and directed the Christian drama, which is set in the Mahoning Valley. He filmed it with local actors over the past four months at a variety of locations in Youngstown, Warren and elsewhere. It has a running time of an hour and 20 minutes.
The film chronicles the life and times of the Lessons family, which is struggling to hold on to their church while also maintaining a relevant religious presence in the community. But family dynamics could lead to not only the destruction of their church but an end to the Lesson legacy.
Shba Cochrane and Olivia Queener, both of Youngstown, star in the film. The cast also includes Vincent Peterson, Brandon Williams, Steve Hamm and Juan Lowery.
“Crisis” is Walker’s fifth film, and he says it is his best.
“I’ve learned some things,” he said. “And I have some new equipment that helps with stabilization.”
His previous films include “No More Ugly Jessica” (2014) and “Angry Tears” (2013).
Tickets to Sunday’s premiere are $10 ($5 for children) and are available at the box office of the theater, which is in Great East Plaza, on Youngstown Warren Road, next to Eastwood Mall.
