Poland School administrators say a Poland Seminary High School student came to them early Friday, with a note she found that contained a bomb threat. Administrators called township police and evacuated the building as a precaution. Township police and bomb-sniffing dog from Youngstown State University swept the building.

“The dog ran through the whole building and found nothing,” said police Chief Brian Goodin. Students and staff returned to their classrooms after about an hour.

Suspect released

David Pavelko II, charged with making a threat that forced a lockdown at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, was released on his own recognizance with electronically monitored house arrest Friday at Mahoning County Area Court. He was arrested Feb. 9. Pavelko, 18, of Cook Avenue in Boardman, pleaded not guilty to four charges at his arraignment March 1.

According to a police report, Pavelko threatened a girl over the phone while she was in class at MCCTC. School administrators locked down the school and called police about the threat. He is charged with inducing panic, domestic violence, aggravated menacing and telecommunications harassment. He has another pretrial hearing at 4 p.m. April 26.

The Hope for Recovery event to share information about addiction will be presented by the Trumbull County Opiate Task Force from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Classroom Building at Kent State University at Trumbull. The event is open to the public. Organizers hope to reach Trumbull County residents who have a loved one or friend dealing with substance abuse to let them know that there is hope, people can change, addicts can recover and families can heal.

The task force is a program of the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board and the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention. The event is sponsored by Mercy Health Behavioral Health Institute, Someplace Safe, Valley Counseling Services, Glenbeigh ACMC Healthcare System, Compass/Community Solutions Association, Help Hotline Crisis Center and The Basement Outreach Ministries.

Probation sentence

PITTSBURGH

A federal judge has sentenced a Grove City, Pa., man to two years’ probation and full restitution in the amount of $27,310 after he was convicted of stealing his deceased mother’s Social Security benefits between January 2011 and September 2012, the U.S. attorney said. U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Alexander Viskovatoff, 57, for theft of government property. The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration.

Meeting canceled

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Land Bank has canceled a Tuesday meeting of its planning committee due to scheduling conflicts. The meeting will be rescheduled.

Lane restrictions

YOUNGSTOWN

Interstate 680 under Vestal Road on the West Side will have various lane restrictions between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. for bridge repairs through today. The work begins the $2.5 million project to replace the Vestal Road bridge over I-680. The entire project is set for completion by late October.
