YOUNGSTOWN

Dominion East Ohio presented an $8,000 grant to Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership of Warren, and $5,000 grants each to the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. and Beatitude House, part of an overall $110,000 in grants given to 15 Northeast Ohio nonprofit organizations in its 21st annual Community Impact Awards competition, co-sponsored by ClevelandMagazine.

TNP received $8,000 for its Warren Enriched program, which combines targeted rehabilitation and sales of formerly vacant homes to new owner occupants with demolitions of other derelict buildings.

YNDC received $5,000 for its Better Blocks program, an effort to revitalize underused sections of two of the city’s primary neighborhood commercial corridors.

Beatitude House, which provides transitional housing to homeless families in Youngstown, Warren and Ashtabula, received $5,000 for its “Over the Edge for Beatitude House” urban rappelling fundraiser.

Business filing figures released

COLUMBUS

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted recently released the new business filing figures for February.

A total of 9,401 new entities filed to do business in Ohio during the month.

This is 1,483 more businesses than filed during February 2015 when 7,918 entities were formed.

In February, Husted announced that 2016 was on track to be another record-setting year based on January’s business filings, which were up 14.9 percent compared with filings in January 2015. The trend has continued into February, and business filings in 2016 are up 16.8 percent with 2,602 more entities filing in 2016 than at the same point in 2015.

ATHENA awards

WEST MIDDLESEX, PA.

Lawrence Mercer ATHENA International will present the Fourth Annual ATHENA Leadership Awards Celebration from 5:30 to 9 p.m. April 19 at the Park Inn by Radisson, 3377 New Castle Road.

Sixteen local women will be honored.

The ATHENA Leadership Awards Celebration, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio, is open to the public.
