Boardman High School’s National Honor Society hosted a Bargain Bin event at BHS on Feb. 27. A hallway at BHS was filled with tables of people selling different items.

The idea came from senior and Vice President of NHS, Vince Huzicka, when he saw people in his family’s community having a successful event similar to this.

“Each year we like to have a big community service project. We sold spots here for people to come in and sell their stuff. It was a way to get the community involved and raise money for other things we do in National Honor Society,” said Huzicka.

The sign-ups started about a month prior to the event, but NHS has been planning the event since December. A lot of people came to get rid of items they didn’t want anymore, but some vendors came as well. Someone sold Mary Kay cosmetics while another vender sold Premier Jewelry.

National Honor Society works on several community projects during the school year. They cleaned up streets in Boardman, brought in coats for Coats for Kids, a canned food drive and worked with the soup kitchen.

“We tried to get everybody in NHS to go out and sell spots and it turned out pretty good. I’m happy with what we got done in a short amount of time,” said Huzicka.

NHS brought in about 30 people to come set up tables.

The next group of NHS members are planning to do this event again in October and to keep it an annual event. It gives the community a chance to come together while also selling excess items they don’t use anymore.
