Scout award dinner set Sunday in Boardman

Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America will host the annual district awards dinner recognizing the 2015 Eagle Scouts and volunteers Sunday at St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave.

The program will begin at 6 p.m., and reservations are required by calling Greater Western Reserve Council Center at 330-898-8474.

This year’s theme is “Scouting does not Happen without U.”

The recognition dinner will honor 17 Scouts who earned their Eagle Scout Award in 2015 in the Whispering Pines District. This is the highest award possible in Boy Scouts.

Also being honored will be Cubmaster of the Year, Scoutmaster of the Year, Scouting Family of the Year, Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews Journey to Excellence Award including training and service awards for Scout volunteers.

The highlight of the evening will be the awarding of two District Awards of Merit, the highest honor a district can bestow upon a volunteer. The award is available to Scouts who have rendered service of an outstanding nature at the district level.

The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Boy Scout Council serves families in Mahoning County and Hubbard with 1,100 youths involved in 42 units supported by 150 adult volunteers.
