What: Join this spring to learn about the amazing world of plants with topics that include pizza plants, moss pets and herbs. Each class will include an activity and snack. Attend all three classes and receive a plant-related prize.

EXPLORERS

When: 10 to 11:30 a.m. today

What: The Explorers will learn about cavity-nesting birds and how to provide nesting structures for birds such as bluebirds, chickadees and house wrens. Participants will make a small nestbox to take home.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva

Cost: Free

Details: Bring your own hammer; all other materials will be provided. Participants must be age 7 to 11. Registration is limited, required and closes Wednesday.

Sandwich Bread 101

When: Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday

What: Grab an apron and learn to make bread that tastes like Grandma’s with Sara Scudier. You will make enriched dough that also can be used to make rolls. Ingredients will include milk, butter and a sweetener.

Starting Seeds Indoors

When: 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday

What: Have coffee with the master gardeners and learn when to start your seeds indoors for outside planting. Discussion will focus on the importance of using the correct growing medium, proper lighting and correct watering procedures for successful germination.

RAISED BED GARDENING

When: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday

What: Join us for a look at gardening in raised beds as we discuss various materials and designs, as well as soil and techniques for growing “off” the ground. You may discover some sneaky ways to make composting easier, too. We will be outside for part of this program to visit our educational garden with its 22 raised beds for vegetable gardening.
