Boardman teacher battling ALS meets Clinton

YOUNGSTOWN — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton while on a campaign stop in the Valley visited with a Boardman woman who is battling ALS.

A video posted by Clinton’s official Facebook page shows the meeting, in which Christine Terlesky tells Clinton, “I don’t know how much longer I have, but I’m going to keep fighting until I get to elect you as president.”

Clinton tells her, “Keep fighting, okay? I’m going to need you to.” She told Terlesky that as president she would invest in research into diseases like ALS.

The Facebook post reads, “We need to invest more to prevent, treat, and secure cures for neurodegenerative diseases like ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.”

Terlesky was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2013. The disease attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, eventually causing victims to lose the ability walk, talk and breathe. There is no cure for the disease.
