Ohio zoo: Polar bear escaped holding area; no public threat

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Zoo says a polar bear escaped a behind-the-scenes holding area but has remained contained and doesn’t pose a threat to visitors.

Zoo spokeswoman Michelle Curley says the breach by the female polar bear named “Berit” happened late this morning. Visitors were moved indoors as a precaution.

She says there is no risk to visitors, who are free to leave the park. She said early this afternoon the situation was ongoing, but under control.

She says there have been no injuries reported.
