YSU’s Gaffney, Holub tie for 28th

The Youngstown State men’s golf team finished ninth among a strong field at Monday’s two-round Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Georgia at the Athens Country Club.

YSU closed out the tournament with a second-round 295 after opening with a 307. The Penguins finished with a two-round score of 602.

Georgia won the event while Arkansas was second and Liberty was third. The Penguins were one shot back of Gardner-Webb and the 295 was the sixth-lowest second round among the 14 teams that participated.

Leading the way were D.J. Holub and Bill Gaffney who tied for 28th place with two-round scores of 148. Holub had scores of 77 and 71 while Gaffney carded a 76 and 72.

Brandon Pluchinsky was 40th with a 150 (73-77), Jason McQuown was 52nd with a 156 (81-75) and Justin Hallapy was 69th with a 163 (85-78).
