Voters at St. Christine face traffic restrictions

YOUNGSTOWN

Those who vote at St. Christine Parish Center must approach the center by going south on Schenley Avenue from Kirk Road, the Mahoning County Board of Elections has reminded voters in a postcard mailed to them in recent days in advance of today’s primary election.

Because of a sewer repair project, Schenley Avenue is closed in both directions at Canfield Road. Although one lane of traffic is being maintained in each direction on Canfield Road, no turns are permitted from Canfield Road onto Schenley Avenue or from Schenley Avenue onto Canfield Road.

Arraigned in shooting

WARREN

Ryan D. Owens, 25, of First Street Southwest is in the Trumbull County Jail without eligibility to make bond in the early Friday shooting of Brian K. Henry II, 21, of Milton Street Southeast.

Owens was arraigned Monday in Warren Municipal Court on felonious assault, accused of shooting Henry multiple times at an apartment on Duke Street Southeast at 12:49 a.m.

A not-guilty plea was entered for Owens. Henry was in stable but critical condition Friday. No condition report was available Monday.

Police said witnesses indicated the shooting took place at a gathering where about 30 people were marking the three-year anniversary of a car crash that killed six teens on Niles Warren River Road about a mile south of downtown.

Henry was one of two people who survived the crash after the car involved flipped into a pond.

Break-in reported by worker at RL Best

BOARDMAN

An employee of RL Best reported a break-in at his place of business, 723 Bev Road, on Sunday afternoon, according to a police report.

The employee stated he found the rear main door pried open and bent. Upon checking inside with three officers, they reportedly found three vending machines pried open, damaged and missing money from torn-out coin boxes.

Several brass fittings were reported as possibly missing, and some items such as blueprints and other brass fittings were thrown to the ground.

The security video from the parking lot and interior is available, and an investigation is underway.

Teen faces charge in assault on man

WARREN

Zachary Woomer, 17, of Lane Drive Southwest, was taken to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center on Saturday afternoon, charged with felonious assault involving a man, 66, of Washington Street Northwest.

The man said Woomer hit him in the hand with a hammer at 2:37 p.m., causing bleeding and swelling. The victim said he was assaulted after he confronted three juveniles, including Woomer, about throwing rocks near his house.

After assaulting the victim, Woomer and another male ran toward the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, the victim said. A Warren police officer found them inside the library and took them to the victim, who identified Woomer as his assailant, police said.

West Branch meeting

West Branch school board will have a special meeting in executive session at 4:30 p.m. today in the conference room at the high school, 14277 Main St., to consider the employment of a public official. No action will be taken.

Cemetery cleanup

GIRARD

Spring cleanup at the Girard City Cemetery has been scheduled effective immediately for removing Christmas decorations from the graves.

Cemetery employees soon will be removing any Christmas decorations for Easter Sunday and Memorial Day.

Easter event set at Brookdale Austintown

Brookdale Austintown, 1420 S. Canfield-Niles Road, will host an Easter event starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Pictures with the Easter bunny and activities will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. and an egg hunt will follow at 11.

Police take custody of woman on warrant

BOARDMAN

Police took custody of Melissa Cochran, 34, from Geneva police on Saturday on a Boardman warrant for receiving stolen property, according to a police report.

Officers responded to a call from Geneva authorities about her arrest and arrived shortly to take her into custody. The arrest warrant accused her of receiving stolen property.

The stolen items included multiple firearms, jewelry, guitars and money totaling $50,750 from Oct. 27 last year.

Police took her to the Mahoning County jail.
