YOUNGSTOWN
Only two people filed to run as independent candidates in the Nov. 8 general election by Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline at the Mahoning County Board of Elections.
Jimmy Hughes, former city police chief, who lives on Oak Street in Youngstown, filed to run as an independent against Democratic incumbent county Sheriff Jerry Greene of Huntington Circle, Boardman. There’s no Republican candidate in that race.
Hughes ran unsuccessfully for sheriff in the 2012 Democratic primary against Greene, who ran unopposed in that year’s general election to become sheriff, and Brian Goodin, Poland Township police chief.
Andrea Mahone, of West Hylda Avenue, Youngstown, filed to run as an independent candidate for the 58th Ohio House of Representatives seat against Democratic incumbent Michele Lepore-Hagan of Madera Avenue, Youngstown, and Republican Corrine Sanderson, of Chaney Circle, Youngstown.
Greene, Lepore-Hagan and Sanderson have no opposition in today’s primary.
No person filed as an independent in Trumbull County.
