Fall prevention

Fall prevention

SALEM

A program, “Fall Prevention,” is offered free and open to the public at 6:30 p.m. April 13 in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St. Registration is required. Visit www.salem.lib.oh.us or call 330-332-0042.

Falls are the top cause of admission to all hospitals, especially trauma centers, in the United States. The injuries the elderly sustain as a result of falling are life changing and, at times, life ending. Mercy St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital has identified fall prevention as their primary injury prevention imperative.

The fall prevention program contains data on falls, the injuries commonly seen with falls, and the impact on the victims of these personal disasters. The discussion will include strategies for reducing falls. The program will be presented by M. Ben Melnykovich, trauma outreach/injury prevention coordinator at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center.
