Correction: Standohar, Sallee made all-district

The names of high school basketball players Mark Standohar (Girard) and Allexis Sallee (Austintown Fitch) were omitted from the Associated Press Northeast Inlands All-District teams in the Saturday, March 5 edition of The Vindicator.

The 5-foot-10 Standohar, a third-team selection on the Division II boys team, averaged 10 points during the 2015-16 season as a senior for the Indians. The 5-9 Sallee, a team-team selection on the Division I girls team, averaged 14 points as a senior for the Falcons.

Ex-Mississippi State QB arrested for DUI

JACKSON, Miss.

Former Mississippi State quarterback and NFL draft prospect Dak Prescott was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Saturday.

The Starkville Police Department confirmed Prescott’s arrest on Twitter late Saturday night. The post said he was arrested around 12:45 a.m. and that there is “no further information from SPD in this incident.”

The 6-foot-2, 226-pound Prescott is arguably the best player in Mississippi State history, rewriting the school’s passing records and helping the program win a combined 19 games in his junior and senior seasons.

Prescott — who was popular with teammates and often praised for his character during his time at Mississippi State — is projected to be drafted anywhere between the second and fourth rounds of April’s NFL Draft.

The Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger first reported Prescott’s arrest.

Prescott went through Mississippi State’s pro day Thursday, throwing for scouts from 30 NFL teams. He said he’s been pleased with his performance during workouts, including the NFL combine, but Saturday’s arrest undeniably clouds Prescott’s reputation as a squeaky-clean leader.

“The quarterback is the face of the organization in the NFL,” Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said on Thursday. “And now they’re looking at a young guy who was the face of our organization here. He knows how to handle that pressure and knows how to carry himself.”

Prescott threw for 3,793 yards, 29 touchdowns and five interceptions last season while also running for 588 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Ex-OU AD, Iowa State coach Duncan dies

OKLAHOMA CITY

Donnie Duncan, a former Oklahoma athletic director and Iowa State football coach, has died at the age of 75.

Son-in-law Patrick Reardon says Duncan, who suffered from cancer, died in his sleep Saturday in Dallas.

Duncan was on Barry Switzer’s Oklahoma football staff from 1973-78, and he helped the Sooners go 62-6-2.

He went 18-24-2 in four seasons at Iowa State. His 1980 and 1981 Cyclone squads were ranked, and the 1981 Cyclones began 5-1-1 and were ranked as high as No. 11 in The Associated Press poll. Duncan’s squads went 3-1 against Iowa, including three straight wins in 1980, 1981 and 1982.

Rex Ryan fires Bills DL coach Karl Dunbar

BUFFALO, N.Y.

The Buffalo Bills have fired defensive line coach Karl Dunbar in an abrupt move announced by Rex Ryan.

In a statement released by the team Sunday night, Ryan called it a difficult decision but added he felt he needed to make a change “and go in a different direction.” No other details were provided.

The Bills defensive line struggled last season in adapting to the defensive system introduced by Ryan. Defensive end Mario Williams went public with his complaints about the system and was cut by the Bills earlier this month.

Dunbar has spent the past four years working for Ryan, starting with three seasons with the New York Jets. Dunbar is a former NFL defensive lineman who played for Arizona in 1994-95, when Ryan was an Cardinals assistant.
