Weapons fire at YARS
VIENNA
Members of the 910th Security Forces Squadron and Department of Defense security officers are conducting weapons qualification at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station on King-Graves Road beginning just before midnight today and continuing during the day and at night through Thursday.
The weapons fire is a scheduled event to maintain the mission readiness of security personnel assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing. Residents and passers-by in the vicinity of YARS should not be alarmed to hear weapons fire during this time.
Elkton prison speaker
POLAND
Beaver Police Department Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. March 22 at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrot Road.
J.C. Hayes, unit manager for FCI Elkton federal prison, will be the evening’s speaker. Hayes will discuss the overall operations of the Federal Correction Institution and local crime statistics will be covered.
Food-safety meetings
CORTLAND
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently released its final rules on the Food Safety Modernization Act, and they became effective in January. Produce-safety classes that will explain what local farms must do to comply to these new rules will be offered at two locations.
The first will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Trumbull County OSU Extension office in Cortland. To register, visit http://go.osu.edu/trumbullgaps. The second will be at Mahoning County OSU Extension office in Canfield from 9 a.m. to noon Friday; register at http://go.osu.edu/mahoninggaps.

Peruvian Night
YOUNGSTOWN
The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, will host a Peruvian Art and Culture Night from 6 to 8 p.m. March 28.
Goldie Monson is an Israeli-American Jewish artist who was born in Peru and emigrated to Israel.
She’ll share her life story and display her artwork and handmade jewelry. Wine and cheese will be offered.
Monson’s artwork and jewelry will be for sale and will remain on display for three days.
The event is free. Participants must R.S.V.P one week before the event.

In conjunction with the local NAACP chapter, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will send investigators here to help people file racial, gender and age-discrimination charges.
The session for this month will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapter offices at 1350 Fifth Ave., Suite 202. Free parking is available behind the building location.
Officials with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said they would like those who expect to file charges to come to the office either Tuesday or between 8 and 10 a.m. Wednesday to fill out their paperwork.
