• Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive, has planned the following: Monday, active exercise and 30 minutes with God at 8 a.m., piloxing at 9, senior spinning (I), bingo, shooting class, painting class and computer basics at 10, lunch at noon, and computer email attachments and body pump at 1; Tuesday, active exercise at 8 a.m., pilates at 9, S.O.S. at 9:30, crocheting at 10, chair yoga at 11:30, ballroom dancing at 12:30 p.m., AARP choir at 1 and volunteers will be working at the polls for the election all day; Wednesday, active exercise at 8 a.m., 30 minutes with God, pilates/yoga, video class: forensics and blood pressure checks at 9, bingo, computer: word basics and senior spinning (E) at 10, $3 pizza party at noon, ukulele class at 12:30 p.m., computer iPad class at 1 and body pump at 1:15; Thursday, active exercise at 8 a.m., video class: Civil War at 8:50, vets helping vets and wood carving at 9, S.O.S. at 9:30, chair yoga and crocheting at 10, knitting and St. Patrick’s Day party at 11 and lunch/grocery bingo at noon; Friday, active exercise at 8 a.m., 30 minutes with God, video class: military blunders and senior spinning (S) at 9, senior spinning (E) at 9:30, bingo at 10, fencing at 10:30 and lunch and learn at 11:30. • Gathering Place event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Lord of Life Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield. Jim Loboy of WYTV will be speaker. Lunch will be provided by the Woodlands. This is a free community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens on the second Monday of each month. A variety of games and activities are offered. • Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., is sponsoring an AARP Tax Aide Program for those with moderate to low income and all senior citizens each Tuesday and Thursday through April 14. No appointments are taken; taxes are done first come, first served from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For information on required documentation, call the center at 330-545-6596.
• Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., is offering free tax preparation by the AARP Tax Aide Program for those with moderate to low income and for senior citizens with simple returns, each Friday from through April 15, excluding Good Friday on March 25. Taxes will be done by appointment only from 9 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. The center is hosting a trip to Mountaineer Casino on Tuesday. Cost is $22 with $25 in free play. The buffet is $6 and is optional. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from Niles and return at about 4:30 p.m. Payment is due with reservation. The center will also host a corned beef dinner to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Cost is $4. Registration is required by Monday. Guests that stay for 1 p.m. bingo will receive a free bingo card. Payment may be made on the day of the event. A free Lunch and Learn session will be 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Jeff Orr with the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force will discuss drug awareness in the community. A dental van will visit the center from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 28. A hygienist will be available for cleanings or a dentist for dental procedures, and are free to those whole qualify. Stop by the center or call 330-544-3676 to register for any of the events.
• Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Fridays through April 11, income tax preparation with AARP tax experts, by appointment only; Tuesday, brush, knife and needle club and a Matter of Balance presented by Girard Multi-Generational Center at 10 a.m., beginner and intermediate bridge at noon and drums alive exercise at 2:30; Wednesday, computer classes for basic, intermediate and advanced at 9 and 11 a.m., watercolors and bereavement support group from Senior Independence Hospice at 10, tap class at noon, 500 card club at 1 p.m., and line dancing at 1:30; Thursday, woodcarvers at 9 a.m., needlecraft and Boardman Fun Day at Boardman Park at 10, and watch our weight and Matter of Balance at 1 p.m.; and Friday, R.O.M. exercise and Youngstown Fun Day sponsored by Park Vista at 10 a.m. Call in advance to make reservations for classes and events at 330-744-5071.
