Mercy Health CEO to retire

Mercy Health – a Catholic health care ministry serving Ohio and Kentucky that operates St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Joseph Warren Hospital and St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital – recently announced the retirement of president and CEO Michael Connelly, effective Jan. 31, 2017.

Connelly has led Mercy Health since 1995. During that time, the organization has evolved from seven autonomous regional health care providers to a unified health system with assets of $6.1 billion.

The Mercy Health board of trustees named John Starcher as Connelly’s successor, appointing him president and CEO-elect. Starcher serves as Mercy Health’s executive vice president of operations in its southern markets and president and CEO of the Cincinnati region, which includes five hospitals and 180 network locations.

Youngstown SCORE receives $5,000 grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown SCORE, a nonprofit organization supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration, recently announced it received a $5,000 grant from National SCORE.

These funds will address vendors selling at area farmers markets through an outreach initiative providing small-business mentorship and a variety of workshops on topics helping food entrepreneurs reach their business goals. The grant also will focus on raising community awareness in buying locally produced foods.

Solar energy project funding

CANFIELD

The U.S. Department of Agriculture continues to offer farmers and businesses located in rural areas the opportunity to apply for a 2016 Rural Energy for America Program grant to assist for-profit entities in funding solar energy projects.

An informational session on the details of who may apply for this grant, along with an overview of how solar systems really work in our region, will be presented from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. March 24 at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Relevant case studies will be discussed to include a farm application and a small business installation. Other topics will include an update on federal tax incentives for solar energy production.

Local bank donates $5K

CORTLAND

Cortland Banks made a $5,000 donation to Trumbull Family Fitness in support of a capital campaign, which is being launched to perform an architectural and marketing feasibility study.

The assessment will focus on capital improvements and future development of the downtown Warren location, where the Trumbull Family Fitness Center operates.
