ACC

No. 7 North Carolina 88, Pittsburgh 71

WASHINGTON

Seventh-ranked North Carolina got off to a fast start at the ACC Tournament as the regular-season champion routed Pittsburgh to take the first step toward its first conference title since 2008. Four players scored in double figures as the Tar Heels (26-6) shot 58.9 percent from the floor and pulled away from Pittsburgh (20-11) in front of a boisterous crowd in baby blue at Verizon Center.

Notre Dame 84, No. 19 Duke 79, OT

WASHINGTON

Looking exhausted down the stretch, 19th-ranked Duke gave away a 16-point, second-half lead against Notre Dame and lost to the Fighting Irish in overtime in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. V.J. Beachem scored 19 points, including a couple of key 3s late in the second half, for fourth-seeded Notre Dame (21-10), which also beat Duke a year ago en route to winning the league tourney and earlier this season at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

No. 4 Virginia 72, Georgia Tech 52

WASHINGTON

With its typical stingy defense, plus 26 points from conference player of the year Malcolm Brogdon, No. 4 Virginia moved into the ACC Tournament semifinals by beating Georgia Tech. Right from the get-go, the Cavaliers (25-6) — to the delight of a partisan crowd — made things tough for Georgia Tech (19-14), which started 0 for 4 on field-goal tries, settling for off-balance heaves late in the shot clock. By the end, the Yellow Jackets had 14 turnovers and a shooting percentage of 41 percent.

NEW YORK

Trevon Bluiett matched his career high with 24 points and No. 5 Xavier dominated from start to finish in a victory over Marquette in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden. The Musketeers took advantage of foul trouble by Marquette star center Henry Ellenson to have a big advantage in points in the paint early and finished with a 42-32 difference.

No. 22 Baylor 75, No. 23 Texas 61

KANSAS CITY, MO.

Taurean Prince had 24 points and 13 rebounds, Rico Gathers added 13 points and No. 22 Baylor’s baffling zone defense shut down No. 23 Texas in a victory in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals. The fifth-seeded Bears (22-10) opened a 15-point lead in the first half, then used coach Scott Drew’s trademark defense to keep the fourth-seeded Longhorns (20-12) from coming all the way back.

No. 1 Kansas 85, Kansas State 63

KANSAS CITY, MO.

Perry Ellis scored 21 points, Frank Mason III added 16 and top-ranked Kansas ran roughshod over weary Kansas State in the quarterfinals in the Big 12 Tournament. The Jayhawks (28-4), who won their 12th consecutive regular-season crown, led 45-30 at halftime before pushing their advantage past 20 for much of the second half.

No. 9 West Virginia 86, TCU 66

KANSAS CITY, Mo.

Devin Williams had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead a balanced West Virginia attack, and the ninth-ranked Mountaineers never trailed in a victory over TCU in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. The plucky Horned Frogs gave them a tussle most of the way, though. They trailed just 63-55 midway through the second half before a spree of 3-pointers allowed the second-seeded Mountaineers (25-7) to seize control.

BIG 10

Illinois 68, No. 20 Iowa 66

INDIANAPOLIS

Jalen Coleman-Lands scored 17 points and Malcolm Hill broke a tie with a 16-foot jumper with 1:14 to go, helping Illinois fend off No. 20 Iowa’s frantic comeback for a stunning upset in the Big Ten tournament. The Fighting Illini (15-18) won for only the second time in six games — this one after allowing the Hawkeyes (21-10) to score 11 straight points in 98 seconds to tie the score at 66 with 1:40 to play.

Michigan 72, Northwestern 70, OT

INDIANAPOLIS

Zak Irvin, who grew up in an Indianapolis suburb, sank a jump shot from the right wing with 3.3 seconds remaining, lifting No. 8 seed Michigan to an overtime victory against No. 9 seed Northwestern in the Big Ten tournament. The Wolverines (21-11) trailed 70-67, but Duncan Robinson’s 3-pointer with 46.5 seconds remaining tied it at 70. Northwestern (20-12) missed an opportunity to retake the lead, and Michigan ran the clock down from 29.3 seconds to set up Irvin’s game winner.

The Zips (25-7) trailed by 12 with 8:46 left before finally finding their range behind the 3-point line to hold off the eighth-seeded Eagles (18-15). They will face the Bowling Green-Central Michigan winner in the semifinals on Friday.

Bowling Green 62, Central Michigan 59

CLEVELAND

Antwon Lillard drained a 3-pointer with 12.3 seconds left as Bowling Green pulled off its second upset in the Mid-American Conference tournament by knocking off Central Michigan in the quarterfinals. Lillard’s shot from the top of the key gave him 26 points and the No. 12 seeded Falcons (16-17) a 60-59 lead. Bowling Green forced a turnover on Central Michigan’s next possession and Ismail Ali made two free throws to make it 62-59.

Ohio 79, Northern Illinois 62

CLEVELAND

Ohio, which made 14 3-pointers, will face the Buffalo-Miami winner in Friday’s semifinals.
