WFMJ News personality Madonna Chism-Pinkard visited Robinwood Lane Elementary on Feb. 19 for a special Black History Month lesson.
Pinkard has visited Robinwood several times to present lessons to students and be part of various activities. Pinkard is a frequent visitor of Jan Zorman’s fourth-grade class. Zorman was previously Pinkard’s teacher and the two have remained good friends since.
During Pinkard’s visit she talked about the first woman millionaire, who happened to be an African American. Her name was Sarah Breedlove, but more commonly known as Madam C.J. Walker. Walker created hair products for African American women. She was known for creating a substance for styling women’s hair.
“I love how fun and hyper she gets, she’s so funny. When she teaches she gets comfy and hyperactive. It’s so fun,” said one student, Corynne Foster, of Pinkard.
When Pinkard comes to visit, she is always more than willing to talk to the students and become engaged with them. She comes with a lot of energy, which makes the students more interested and willing to listen to her lessons.
The students in Zorman’s class are provided with an opportunity to listen to a guest speaker and learn things they might not have had the chance to otherwise.
