Looking out for mom, man surrenders to cops

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a man who led police on a car and foot chase early today got away, then returned to turn himself in because he did not want his mother's car to be towed or have her arrested for pills found in the car.

Walter Williams, 21, of Redondo Road, is in the Mahoning County jail after being taken into custody about 1:05 a.m. in the 200 block of Madison Avenue.

Reports said Williams led an officer on a chase reaching speeds up to 80 miles per hour before running from his car after he stopped it, leaping a six-foot fence and getting away.

As police were searching the car, reports said Williams returned and said he was the driver and decided to give himself up because he did not want the car to be towed because it belonged to his mother.

Reports said Williams also told police he had some pills and discovered after he ran away the pills were not in his pocket and he did not want his mother to be charged for them.

Reports said officers found seven pills in the car.
