Woman allegedly brandished a gun at people in Boardman Park

BOARDMAN

A Youngstown woman faces multiple charges after she allegedly brandished a gun at people in Boardman Park.

Tonya Woolensack, 41, of Hillman Street, is charged with felony tampering with evidence, and misdemeanor counts of aggravated menacing and carrying a concealed weapon for the incident reported Wednesday afternoon. She was taken to the Mahoning County jail and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here later today.

Police were called to the park about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police report. A male victim reported that, while walking with his girlfriend, he got into argument with another man after that man's unleashed dog ran up and started to fight his dog. Woolensack then reportedly appeared and threatened to shoot him, pulling a handgun from her waistband.

Police found the gun, wrapped in a coat and concealed in a backpack, after they located Woolensack near the park's outdoor theater. Although she was still in the grace period to renew her concealed-carry permit, according to the report, police charged her with carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence because she at first denied having a gun "and tried to distance herself from it."
