UPDATE | Classes canceled at East High after large fight


YOUNGSTOWN — Classes are canceled at East High School following a large fight and at least three people are in custody.

Superintendent Steven Stohla told parents at the school they can take their children home and buses will be called for the remainder of the students.

Police were called to the school, 471 Bennington Ave., about 11:10 a.m.and events quickly escalated.

One student said a fight began on the lower level and escalated. As police sprayed mace to break it up, the mace affected other students.

At least three people have been detained in handcuffs.

A police van was brought to the scene to transport those taken into custody.

Medical personnel are also at the school.

Recently the school has been under scrutiny for disciplinary problems.
