Warren man collapses after stove fire in apartment

WARREN

A simple stove fire at an elderly man's apartment in the Tod's Crossing senior citizen complex off of Tod Avenue Southwest produced a potentially deadly situation this afternoon.

Firefighters and ambulance personnel were called to an apartment at 1320 Fourth Drive at 1:41 p.m. after the man collapsed at a neighbor's apartment after finding smoke in his kitchen, Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle said.

The man apparently left home a short time and when he returned, he discovered smoke in his kitchen. He apparently inhaled some of the smoke and went back outside and to the neighbor's and then collapsed. The neighbor called 911, and a firefighter trained as a paramedic tried to use life-saving measures on the man, but he did not respond immediately.

Ambulance personnel took over his care when they arrived, but it's not known whether they were successful in reviving him, Nussle said.

The fire did not cause any fire damage except to the pot, though it did cause smoke damage, Nussle said.
