Eye Care & Vision Therapy Ctr., with Dr. Joseph Pederzolli, O.D., 11995 South Ave., is offering a free workshop on learning-related vision problems from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will learn how to assess, test for and distinguish visual conditions that keep some children from doing well in school; and how and why vision therapy works.

Signs of visual processing problems include: Takes hours to do homework; skips words or lines when reading; rubs eyes or gets red eyes or headaches in the afternoon; poor concentration when reading; failure to comprehend material that has just been read; slow, hesitant reading even when re-reading material; an attention span that shortens when doing close-up work, and using finger or a marker to hold place while reading.

Addiction event

A “Hope for Recovery from Addiction” free event is 6 to 8 p.m. March 19 at the administration building at Kent State University Trumbull Campus, 4314 Mahoning Ave. For information, visit www.trumbullmhrb.org or call 330-675-2765, ext. 119.

The purpose of the event, offered by MercyHealth Behavioral Health Institute and the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, is to share information about addiction and local resources and support. Speakers and their topics are: Bonnie Wilson, “A Mother’s Journey;” Dr. Joseph Sitarik, medical director of the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, “Suboxone: Help for the Addict that Still Suffers;” Melanie Gambill, detective for the street crimes unit of the Warren Police Department, “The Changing Perspective of Law Enforcement”; and Jim Evans, senior vice president of planning for Meridian Healthcare, “The Science and Personal Experience of Recovery: The Family Perspective.”

Wellness fair

Mussler Chiropractic in Boardman and The Supplement Station in Salem are offering their tenth annual Health and Wellness Fair at The Supplement Station, 1139 E. Pidgeon Road, Salem, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 18.

Free healthy samples, food, hourly door prizes and several vendors with health and wellness information will be available.

Mercy Health will offer blood testing in the morning for a fee, and free bone scans in the afternoon. The heel bone scans and blood work require an appointment. Call 330-337-3835.

Health and wellness practitioners include naturopath, Dr. Dannielle MacDuff, offering free mini-consultations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Mussler Chiropractic, offering free spine, posture, and blood pressure checks, and pain relief consultations.

Concussion seminar

A free seminar about understanding concussions, including symptoms, treatment and prevention, is offered by Family Medicine Physician, Dr. Jeffrey R.
