Portions of South Schenley Avenue will be closed starting at 10 a.m. today because of an emergency sewer repair.

Also, traffic along Canfield Road at the intersection of South Schenley will be restricted to one lane.

Detours will be posted with local access to homes, schools and businesses maintained.

Block Watch Summit

YOUNGSTOWN

The 7th Ward Citizens Coalition will host a Block Watch Summit at 10 a.m. Saturday in the downstairs social hall at Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd.

The summit is an opportunity for leaders of each block watch and neighborhood group in the 7th Ward to educate one another about their neighborhoods while discussing issues of specific and mutual concern. Light refreshments will be available.

Mayor John A. McNally, police Chief Robin Lees and Councilwoman Basia Adamczak, D-7th, have been invited and are expected to attend. The meeting will be facilitated by former ward councilman John R. Swierz, who is now a member of the 7WCC board of directors.

The 7WCC is in its 21st year of community service.

Skywarn training

AUSTINTOWN

The annual Mahoning County Skywarn volunteer training will take place at 6:30 p.m. March 30 in the Austintown Fitch High School auditorium, with sign-in at 5:30 p.m.

The Skywarn spotter program is a nationwide network of volunteers trained by the National Weather Service to observe and report to NWS on major weather events.
