Pope Gregory the Great in the sixth century defined the list of seven deadly sins as a set of negative values:

Pride: An excessive belief in one’s own abilities.

Envy: Wanting what others have – status, abilities or possessions.

Gluttony: Desire to eat or consume more than one requires.

Lust: Powerful craving for sex, power and/or money.

Anger: Loss of rational self-control and desire to harm another.

Greed: Desire for material wealth and gain.

Sloth: Laziness and the avoidance of work.
