BOARDMAN

A township man faces charges of making methamphetamine and child endangering after a search of his Southern Boulevard apartment.

Police and agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency task force, using a search warrant, entered the apartment Friday afternoon. They arrested Tod Caldwell, 41. Caldwell told police his 2-year-old son was in the residence with another man.

Police identified the second man as Adam Hayes, 25, of Robertsville, Ohio. They arrested him on charges of possession of methamphetamine and illegal assembly of chemicals.

Once police secured the residence, officials reportedly found containers of suspected marijuana, suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Police also found numerous receipts for the purchase of pseudoephedrine, an ingredient used to manufacture methamphetamine, authorities said.

They also reported finding a coffee can containing lithium batteries, drain opener and a pipe cutter, also items used in making meth.

Police charged Caldwell with illegal possession of chemicals to manufacture drugs, possession of methamphetamine, illegal assembly or possession of chemicals and child endangering.

Caldwell is out on bond. Hayes is in the Mahoning County jail.

Caldwell and Hayes were to be arraigned today in Mahoning County Area Court here.

The child was turned over to his mother, who also stayed at the apartment. The woman, who was not charged, told police she would take the boy to her mother’s home in Salem, according to a police report.
