2 face DUI charges after arrests in Girard
GIRARD — Two people are facing driving under the influence charges after two separate incidents on Friday.
Police stopped Michael Deans, 29, of Hubbard about 2 a.m. on Woodland Avenue for stopping in the middle of the roadway before driving onto the curb and and nearly hitting several telephone poles, according to a report. Deans, who declined to give a blood-alcohol content test or perform field-sobriety tests, smelled of alcohol and marijuana, police reported.
Police found a small amount of suspected marijuana and some rolling papers after searching Deans' car and person, a police report states. He was also cited for drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving left of center and impeding traffic.
In a separate incident, police responded to Morris Avenue and South State Street about 11 p.m. to check a report of a driver who was slumped over the steering wheel.
The driver, Keith Colvin, 55, of Youngstown initially refused to leave his vehicle, swore repeatedly at an officer and made threats, a police report states. Colvin had a small knife in his pocket and an open bottle of whiskey in his car, according to the report. He is also charged with violating the city's open-container law, disorderly conduct, menacing and impeding traffic. Colvin declined to submit a breath test or perform field-sobriety tests. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after complaining of an injury.
