Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Pianist Avguste Antonov will return to Youngstown March 18-20 for a series of free concerts and master classes, sponsored by New Music Guild.
Antonov will appear on the Youngstown State University campus at the Dana School of Music’s convocation at 11 a.m. March 18 in Bliss Recital Hall. Later that day he will present a master class in Jefferson for local pianists under sponsorship of Jefferson’s First Congregational Church (UCC) with the support of the Ashtabula Arts Center. He will play a recital at 7 p.m. March 19 at the First Congregational Church in Jefferson.
The main concert of his residency will take place at 4 p.m. March 20 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Holy Apostles Parish, 421 Covington St., Youngstown. A reception will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
Antonov last performed in Youngstown in August 2015. His appeal lies in his strong advocacy for music by living American composers, which parallels the mission of the New Music Guild.
In his upcoming concerts, he will perform several works composed by Robert Rollin of Youngstown, including the jazz-related “Blue Fantasy,” “Night Thoughts II” and “Romance.”
