3 shot in market parking lot; 7-year-old boy dies

COLUMBUS

A shooting in the parking lot of a market near downtown Columbus has left a 7-year-old boy dead and another small child and a man wounded.

Police say the boy was shot in the head Friday and died at a hospital. A 4- or 5-year-old child and a 19-year-old man have been hospitalized.

The Columbus Dispatch reported police said they’re questioning three people who might have been involved in the shooting but haven’t arrested anyone.

Investigators believe the children were passengers in a car that was struck by bullets. Police have blocked off an area around the market.

Witness Jay Keen co-owns a nearby body shop. He told the Dispatch he heard about 15 gunshots and saw “a bunch of little kids” trying to run from the car.
