The Austintown library hosted an Un-Valentine’s Day event on Feb. 10 for those who wanted a change from the usual Valentine’s Day activities.

Austintown librarian, Lindsay Platt, worked on putting the event together for the tweens and teens who attended. She set up such asctivities as unfortunate cookies, broken heart cookies, break the heart cornhole, match the celebrities to their exes—there was a bonus for whoever guessed all of Taylor Swift’s exes—and guess the unromantic book titles. There was also pizza, cookies and juice boxes to snack on while watching the movie “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.”

One of the activities the children seemed to like was the message board and photobooth. There were little message bubbles in which participants could write their own message on with chalk and hold up in the photobooth. They could also write a message on the photobooth frame.

“We have a ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’ photobooth. They can write on there if they hate Valentine’s Day and how much they hate it,” said Platt.

All of the activities were meant for the children to have fun with, all while celebrating Valentine’s Day in a much different way. The Un-Valentine Day event was a clever way for teens to rebel against the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
