Division II
Canfield: Mason Giordano (285) lost to Sandusky’s Jamez Young 4-2 in an utlimate tie-breaker. Giordano remains alive by beating Claymont’s Jaret Aubiel. Dominic Cooper lost to Defiance’s Robbie Bowers in a 4-2 decision, but took out Granville’s Mathieu Holt in a 3-1 decision.
Poland: Dante Ginnetti won by decision against Dayton Carroll’s Nick Berry, 6-2. Dave Esarco (145) lost 7-0 against Ashland’s Sid Ohl, but came back with a 6-4 decision against Carrollton’s Joe Knipp. Anthony Audi (170) and Trey Ellis (220) went two-and-out.
Beaver Local: Jason Keyes (145) won a narrow 10-9 decision against Eaton’s Mac Altom. Beau Smith lost by pin to LeConte Merrell, but remains alive after pinning New Richmond’s Brandon Planck.
Girard: Ben Norman (220) was eliminated after pins by Carrollton’s Brody Robinson and Lewistown Indian’s Steven Major.
Salem: Kade Byland (160) lost to the projected champ in his weight class, Paris St. Graham’s Garrett Jordan in an 11-3 major decision. He remains in the tournament after beating Carrollton’s Brenton Miller, 4-1.
West Branch: Dylan Miller (145) lost after pins by Wauseon’s Sandro Ramirez and Altom.
DIVISION III
Jackson-Milton: The Bluejays’ Terry Stockton (120) was pinned by reigning state champion, Delta’s Drew Mattin in 43 seconds. He was eliminated by Griffin Jenkins from Galion Nortmor in 1:14.
“For Terry, it’s a start to a new chapter, he’ll move on from wrestling and go to college,” coach Brian Weidenthal said. “He’s a good kid. He’s going to be very successful in life, it just happened not to work out today.”
South Range: Anthony Renforth lost a 9-1 major decision to Mechanicsburg’s Wade Smitty, but is still in the tournament after pinning Shadyside’s Cody Hawthorne in 4:21.
Grand Valley: Cody Rhoads (138) fell to Oak Harbor’s Trevor Scherf in a 3-1 decision. Rhoads rallied to pin Sandy Valley’s Hunter Stoffer. Austin Mathis (285) was pinned by London Madison Plains’ Brandon Garver in 45 seconds. Mathis was eliminated by Casstown Miami East’s Ben Ferguson in an 8-4 decision.
Brookfield: The Warriors’ Zach Hackett lost a close match, 2-1, to Hunter Bodkin from Martins Ferry, but remains alive after pinning Van Buren’s Nick Devore in 4:15.
Pymatuning Valley: Gaige Willis (182) was the first local in the tournament to win a first-round matchup, beating Covington’s Brandon Magee in a 9-1 decision.
