A 17-year-old Girard boy is charged with driving left of center and operating a vehicle under the influence after a Wednesday afternoon crash in the township.

The collision occurred at about 3:11 p.m. on West Liberty Street near McDonald Avenue. A Ford F-150, driven by the 17-year-old, hit a Kia Rio, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Kia’s driver, Sonja Miller, 64, of Youngstown sustained injuries, including broken bones. An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper characterized Miller’s injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

Two children in her car, ages 10 and 13, suffered minor injuries.

There were two passengers in the Ford. One passenger, a 17-year-old from Girard, had minor injuries.

The Youngstown Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., in collaboration with Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority’s Financial Fitness Workshops will present a debt-reduction workshop from 10 a.m. to noon or 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, 131 W. Cops issue 2 citations for open containers

A traffic stop Wednesday afternoon led to citations being issued to two men for violating the city’s open-container law.

Police stopped a car on McCartney Road at about 3:45 p.m. because a license-plate check listed the car’s registered owner as having a suspended license, according to a police report.

Officers found multiple open containers of alcohol in the car, the report states.

The car’s driver, Alden Manning, 63, and the passenger, James Hemrick, 61, both of Campbell, were cited for violating the open-container law. Manning is also charged with driving under suspension, and Hemrick is charged with failing to comply with a court order.

Felony arraignment in attempted burglary

A Vienna man was arraigned Thursday in Girard Municipal Court on a felony attempted burglary charge.

Police say Nickolas Ralston, 39, tried to break into an East Prospect Street home early Wednesday morning.

According to a police report, a woman said Ralston came to her residence and broke the window pane of a door after she refused to let him in, a police report states.

The report notes that Ralston’s right hand was bleeding. He told officers he punched the window because he was angry and had too much to drink, but that he did not mean to break it, according to the report.

Ralston’s case is set for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

S. Range registration scheduled next week

NORTH LIMA

South Range School District will have open registration for kindergarten students next week. Students must be residents of the South Range district to register and be 5 on or before Sept. 30.

Parents can register over the phone or make an appointment for screening by calling the elementary school office at 330-549-5578 between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The district also is accepting applications for statewide open enrollment. Applications can be found on the district website, www.southrange.org, or be picked up at the board of education office.
