A recent summary of criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Feb. 25
Theft: A Highland Avenue woman reported a $1,100 cashiers check stolen.
Feb. 29
Identity fraud: A Country Lane woman discovered her personal information had been used without authorization.
BOARDMAN
Feb. 23
Assault: While answering a fight call at a Boardman-Poland Road discount store, authorities charged 24-year-old Ashley L. Milton of Duncan Lane, Youngstown, with assault, obstructing official business and resisting arrest after a family friend alleged she had hit, punched and kicked him when he refused to give her money for shopping. Milton, who also was in a brief struggle with officers, faced an additional felony charge of intimidation when, police said, she threatened in their presence to kill the victim.
Drugs: After having been stopped in the 4100 block of Market Street, 24-year-old Jahwuan D. Pete of Rosewae Drive, Youngstown, was charged with drug abuse. Found were two bags of suspected marijuana and one bag containing various white pills, police said.
Feb. 24
Arrest: James A. Anderson, 35, who listed addresses on Market Street in Youngstown and Hyde Avenue in Niles, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near Market Street. Anderson was wanted on a Liberty Township warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court.
Drugs: A traffic stop near Tiffany Boulevard led to charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia against 27-year-old Karrie A. Kascsak of Sugar Pines Drive, Warren. Kascsak had several syringes and a spoon with burn marks, both of which had suspected drug residue, police alleged.
Vandalism: A Boardman man reportedly did an estimated $1,000 in damage to a Liberty Township apartment.
Assault/criminal damaging: A Berlin Center woman alleged her boyfriend, of Carter Circle, had pushed her into a wall during a discussion about their relationship. He also kicked her vehicle’s passenger-side door, she further alleged.
Theft: An Applecrest Court woman discovered approximately $7,000 worth of jewelry missing from her home.
Vandalism: Authorities arrested 32-year-old Donald P. O’Brien at his Glenwood Avenue apartment on a felony-vandalism charge after the owner of a piece of property in Liberty Township reported someone had used a hammer to damage a portion of drywall, and damaged part of the hallway. An estimated $1,000 in damage was done to the walls, a report showed.
Feb. 25
Arrest: A traffic stop near Market Street led to the arrest of 31-year-old Toya D. Scott of Erie Street, Boardman, who was charged with two counts of endangering children and one of operating a vehicle impaired. Scott had a 0.209 blood-alcohol count, which is more than twice Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit, as well as two youngsters in the back seat, police alleged.
Aggravated menacing: A Canfield woman told authorities that during an argument with another driver near Shields Road and Westport Drive, the passenger approached her vehicle with a metal wrench and threatened to kill her. The driver apparently was angered when the victim tapped her horn to alert him that a nearby light had turned green, a report showed.
Drug paraphernalia: Zachary J. Markovich of East Western Reserve Road, Poland, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers had pulled him over near Midlothian Boulevard. The 22-year-old man had a suspected marijuana pipe and a spoon with burn marks common in drug use, a report stated.
Arrest: After responding to a report that someone had struck a police cruiser near South Avenue, authorities charged 58-year-old Gregory A. Fleischer of Medford Avenue, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired after saying Fleischer’s blood-alcohol count was 0.223. The charge was elevated to a third-degree felony because of a prior felony conviction, a report showed.
Theft: A Canfield girl, 16, was accused of stealing $50 worth of undergarments from Victoria’s Secret Pink store in Southern Park Mall.
Counterfeit: A financial manager with Preston Hyundai, 7554 Market St., reported having received a counterfeit $1,000 check as a down payment for a vehicle purchase.
Domestic violence: Mia D. Grandberry, 22, of Leighton Avenue, Boardman, was charged with domestic violence, resisting arrest and obstructing official business after her girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Grandberry had choked her, then grabbed the accuser’s hair and refused to let go. Grandberry also failed to comply with officers’ commands to release the victim, a report showed.
Theft: Kevin R. James, 35, of West Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, and 49-year-old Tina M. Jarrette of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Youngstown, were charged with stealing 10 to 15 bottles of body wash from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Feb. 26
Domestic violence/drugs: Deandre D. Levy, 25, of South Schenley Avenue, Boardman, faced felony charges of domestic violence, trafficking in marijuana and trafficking in heroin after his pregnant girlfriend alleged he had struck her three or four times in the face during an argument. Levy, who also was wanted on a felony domestic-violence warrant, had seven individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana totaling 13.45 grams, along with seven individually wrapped bags of suspected heroin weighing 3.14 grams, a report stated.
Criminal damaging: A Shields Road woman reported a man with whom she had been in an argument struck and broke her car’s front windshield.
Theft: Someone removed a $100 trash can from a residence in the 700 block of Glen Park Road.
Misuse of a credit card: An elderly Afton Avenue woman found out her credit cards had been used without permission to make five unauthorized purchases of clothing and jewelry totaling $1,811.
Theft: An employee with a McClurg Road business noticed her $200 cellphone missing while at work.
Drugs: U.S. marshals handed to township authorities 32-year-old Stephanie L. Sattarelle of East Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on one felony count of tampering with evidence and on a misdemeanor drug-abuse charge related to a Feb. 20 situation in which a township man alleged Sattarelle had used suspected heroin at his home. When police arrived, they found hypodermic needles with suspected heroin residue, a report showed.
Theft: Two 17-year-old Youngstown girls faced charges of theft and obstructing official business after having been accused of stealing $146 worth of makeup from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road, and providing false names and dates of birth.
Arrest: Joseph S. Maderitz of North Hazelwood Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with violating a protection order after a Hunting Valley Drive woman alleged the 47-year-old Maderitz had left two gift bags, one containing a 10-page handwritten letter, at her residence, in violation of the order.
Misuse of a credit card: A Santa Fe Trail woman learned that her debit card had been used without consent at a U.S. Route 224 grocery store.
Feb. 27
Arrest: A vehicle check near Market Street led to the arrest of 24-year-old Stephanie L. Savin of North Shadylane Drive, East Liverpool, on a charge of complicity to theft related to a Feb. 5 shoplifting situation at Dillard’s in Southern Park Mall in which roughly $400 worth of merchandise had been stolen.
Attempted burglary: Someone tried to force open a window and enter an apartment in the 5000 block of Aravesta Avenue and damaged the frame.
Child endangering: Police reported investigating two people who were rummaging through trash bins at the Shops at Boardman Park while three infants were in their vehicle with no heat in 27-degree weather. Nevertheless, no charges had been filed at the time of the report.
Theft: Authorities at the Trumbull County jail picked up 42-year-old Donald J. Parise Jr., who was wanted on theft and probation-violation charges. Parise, of High Street, Warren, was accused of stealing a $55 hooded sweatshirt Jan. 28 from Kohl’s.
Auto theft: A 2008 Chevrolet Aveo was stolen in the 6100 block of Market Street.
Identity theft: A Paxton Road man told police his and his roommate’s signatures had been forged on their lease agreement.
Theft: A man in his 40s reportedly stole $68 worth of perfume from Victoria’s Secret in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A Sugar Land, Texas, woman reported about $1,940 worth of items had been removed from her room at a Tiffany Boulevard motel.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A West Boulevard woman said a man failed to return her 2015 Toyota Corolla at the agreed-upon time.
Arrest: While responding to a vehicular accident near Angiline Drive, authorities charged Shirley J. Szabo, 53, of Angiline, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired. Szabo’s blood-alcohol count was 0.165, a report said.
Theft: A woman reportedly stole three pairs of men’s pajama bottoms from Kohl’s.
Criminal damaging: An Argyle Avenue woman said her $900 iPhone had been damaged during an argument.
Theft: Police charged 32-year-old Marquis L. Allen with theft after alleging Allen, of East Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, had taken $510 worth of property, including cellphones, from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.
Feb. 28
Arrest: A vehicle check in the 5200 block of Market Street resulted in the arrest of Zachary J. Markovich, 22, of East Western Reserve Road, Poland. He was wanted on a Liberty Township warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Citations: After pulling him over near Shields Road, police issued citations charging 34-year-old Emanuel M. Green of West Judson Avenue, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired and having 2.9 grams of suspected marijuana.
Assault: A Youngstown man who had performed home-improvement projects at a West Boulevard residence alleged the homeowner struck his face and nose, causing the accuser to fall backward, as he tried to collect about $350 for the work.
Aggravated menacing: Police responded to a possible fight in the 5700 block of Sheridan Road, where a Youngstown man told them he had been threatened with a gun.
Impersonation: A South Avenue man and his girlfriend reported that while on Applewood Boulevard, a man in his 40s pulled up and claimed to be a township police officer.
Harassment: A Turnberry Drive man said his juvenile daughter has received a series of such calls.
Theft: A woman reported about $3,000 worth of jewelry missing from her Mapleridge Drive home.
