Mahoning County Grand Jury indicts 21

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted 21 people, including Sarah Markulin, 28, Idaho Road, Austintown, on possession of heroin, possessing drug abuse instruments, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

About 5:30 p.m. Jan. 9, police pulled over a car driven by Markulin for an improper turn and when officers approached, it looked like Markulin was trying to hide something, reports said.

When police walked up to the car, they saw a needle in plain sight and asked Markulin to step out of the car. Reports said she refused to get out and an officer had to open the door.

Even after the door was opened, Markulin still refused to get out. Reports said an officer had to take her by the hand and drag her out of the car. When she was searched, police found a dose of suspected heroin and three needles.

The grand jury Thursday also indicted Deraile Jett, 20, on carrying concealed weapons, having weapons while under disability, and driving under suspension.

About 4:40 p.m. Jan 18, police found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun after pulling over a car because the driver was going too slow.

Officer Anthony Trimble pulled over a car driven by Deraile Jett, 20, no address available, at Albert and Donation streets because the car was driving so slow it was impeding the flow of traffic.

The grand jury also indicted Chere Clinton, 28 of Masury, on possession of cocaine and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Jan 29, Clinton was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on Cleveland Avenue for failing to signal for a turn.

Reports said when an officer approached the car, she dropped a bag of suspected crack cocaine on the floor, and when she was taken out of the car, there was a bag of suspected crack underneath her legs.
