Cops seize 29th gun

Police took a Fairgreen Avenue man into custody about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday after they found a loaded .25-caliber handgun in his car.
Reports said officers pulled over Christopher T. Gordon, 27, at Williamson and Belleview avenues on the South Side after he ran a stop sign. Reports said Gordon told police he had a suspended license and a records check revealed he had 12 open suspensions on his license.
When police searched the car before having it towed, they found the gun. Reports said Gordon told police he has had the gun for a long time because he needs protection.
Gordon was jailed on a charge of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle. The gun is the 29th seized by police this year and the second in two days.
Boardman robbery

Township police are investigating a robbery reported Tuesday. A female victim told police while she was at Martin Mobile Homes on South Avenue with a male acquaintance Tuesday, a man pulled a knife, threatened to kill her and stole $140.
Two face drug charges

Police charged two people found early Tuesday morning in a vacant West Side home with possession of drug-abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police reports, officers said they found three needles and a burnt spoon by a mattress where the people were hiding.
Reports said officers were called about 4:05 a.m. to a vacant home in the 100 block of North Maryland Avenue for a report of people inside.
Hiding under covers on a mattress in an upstairs room were Jason Glaspell, 34, of Warren, and Delisa Chipps, 38, no address listed. They were both taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Conversation on race

Sacred conversations on racism continue as part of the clergy breakfasts of ACTION, the Alliance For Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods.
The next event will take place next Thursday at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 2821 Hillman St.
Breakfast will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the church, where the Rev. Clifford Kimbrough is pastor. Special guest will be the Rev. Evan Moore, facilitator.
Reservations are requested by Monday to taulene@aol.com. There is no charge, but a count of attendees is needed.
Monsignor Robert Siffrin is ACTION president. Organizers are the Rev. Joseph Fata, the Rev. Jack Pettis, Pastor Jeff Stanford and the Rev. Robin Woodberry.
Gardening conference

Penn State Master Gardeners in Lawrence County will host a spring conference from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 12 at The Confluence, 214 E. Washington St.
The program features four educational topics focusing on native plants.
