CAMPBELL

City council reviewed several proposed fee changes during its regular meeting Wednesday night.

One ordinance would set the garbage-collection fee at $14 per residence per month. Another would increase occupancy permit fees.

Occupancy permits, which ensure buildings are up to code, are typically required for new homes or businesses.

The fee would increase from $50 to $100 for a new residence, from $35 to $70 for an existing residence, from $75 to $150 for a new commercial structure and from $70 to $140 for an existing commercial structure.

The fee would increase from $20 to $40 for an additional permit at the same address where another permit has already been purchased within the same year.

Council voted to send the fee ordinances to a second reading.

A vote is typically taken after three readings.

In other business, council reviewed a proposed leave of absence policy and approved $15,100 in payment to Mazza’s Heating and Cooling for repairs to the heating system in the municipal courtroom in city hall.

The lawmakers also approved payment of $117,322 for a tractor for the street department, with $63,430 of that to go to John Deere & Co. and $54,891 to Elder AG & Turf Equipment Co.

Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a caucus session to discuss animal tethering laws and a proposal to establish a city-owned tow yard.

Mayor Nick Phillips will host a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. next Thursday to discuss the city’s water supply. Water Superintendent Joe Tovarnak will be available to answer questions.
