Poland’s Grisdale will receive award
POLAND
Ken Grisdale will be one of six high school basketball coaches to be presented with an Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association award at the state championship games in Columbus.
Grisdale, Poland’s boys basketball coach for 23 seasons, will be presented the Bob Arnzen Award on March 19 at Ohio State’s Value City Arena.
In January, Grisdale won his 400th game. He’s taken Poland to three state tournaments.
The other boys coaches are: Mark Bagley, Van Wert; Chris Hassinger, Medina; Pat Kreke, Bishop Fenwick; and John Lindsay, Ottawa Hills.
John Cahill, Clyde’s girls coach, will be honored on March 12.
Grove City inducts Mathews graduate
GROVE CITY, PA.
Michele Kirin Michael, a 1986 graduate of Mathews High School, was recently inducted into the Grove City College Sports Hall of Fame.
She played on the Grove City softball team for four years.
Kirin Michael graduated from GCC in 1990 with a bachelors of science in biology and from Des Moines University in 1992 with a masters of science in physical therapy. She resides in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., where she is regional vice president of clinical operations for Genesis Healthcare.
Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kirin of Vienna.
Zallow, Neu qualify for NCAA championships
YOUNGSTOWN
Freshman Chad Zallow and senior Conner Neu of the Youngstown State men’s track and field team will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala. The field for the event which will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex was announced on Tuesday night.
This will be the third time YSU has qualified athletes to the NCAA indoor meet, but the first time in school history that a pair will go together. Zallow will be the second runner and first since Kurt Michaelis in 2003 while Neu will be the second thrower and first since Bobby Grace in 2012. Both Michaelis and Grace earned All-America accolades in their NCAA appearances.
Zallow, a Warren native and Warren JFK graduate, has had an outstanding first year with the program as he will be competing in the 60-meter hurdles.
Neu, who is from Brook Park, rewrote the YSU record book twice this season in the weight throw.
YSU’s Morse named to HL’s second team

Sophomore Cameron Morse was named to the All-Horizon League second team and freshman Jordan Andrews was selected to the league’s All-Freshman Team in a vote by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and select media, the league announced Tuesday.
Morse led the Horizon League in scoring in league games and was second overall (20.1 points per game). Morse posted a league-high 420 points (23.3 points per game) in league competition and scored at least 20 points in 13 HL contests.
He posted a career-high and Horizon-League best 44 points against Green Bay on Jan. 9, 2016, and shot 47.3 percent from the field, 49 percent from 3-point range and 82.8 percent from the free-throw line in league play.
Andrews broke the YSU single-season 3-point record by a freshman with 49 3-pointers this season and averaged 9.8 points per game against Horizon League opponents.
He made 34 of his 49 3s against in league play and shot 38.6 percent from beyond the arc in league competition.
Andrews scored in double figures 13 times and had a career-high 19 points with a career-best six 3-pointers against Green Bay on Feb. 20, 2016.
