Lauren Landy is leaving her co-anchor position on “WFMJ Today,” the popular daily morning newsmagazine.

Her last day will be Friday.

Landy has had the job since October 2008.

She has accepted a marketing and sales position with Central One Optical, an eyeglass lens manufacturer in Boardman that serves customers worldwide.

But Landy is not totally saying goodbye to the world of TV journalism; she will come back to do special-assignment coverage as needed for 21 WFMJ-TV.

Beginning next week, several people will fill the co-anchor vacancy on “WFMJ Today” until a permanent replacement can be found, said Mona Alexander, the station’s news director.

Landy said co-anchoring “WFMJ Today” was like a dream come true.

“I have the best job in the world, and leaving it has been a decision I labored over a long time,” she said. “I’ve been through some personal changes and have had to re-evaluate some things in my life, and fortunately this really great opportunity miraculously happened at this time.”

The Mahoning Valley has become home for the Illinois native, and although she is happy to be able to stay here, Landy said, “Leaving WFMJ is bittersweet. I won’t miss waking up at 3 a.m., but I will be missing my work family.”

Landy made the announcement that she is leaving on Monday morning’s “WFMJ Today.”

“The people in this building have been my family since I moved to Youngstown,” she told viewers. “This team ... this station, this building and everyone who comes to work here every day is incredible, and I am going to miss it.”
