BOARDMAN

Police charged a Men’s Wearhouse store manager with grand theft Tuesday evening.

According to a police report, a store official contacted police after an investigation reportedly found Samuel Strine, 30, of Carlise Avenue, Youngstown, had taken about $30,000 from the store the past two years.

The store’s security officer, Dion Spencer, conducted the investigation after discovering Strine reportedly making fraudulent transactions through large return amounts made to the store, some made after hours.

The investigation reportedly revealed Strine was issuing returns on items from previous customers, reselling the items at a discounted rate and pocketing the difference.

According to police, Strine, in a written statement, said he committed the fraudulent returns, but he used the money toward other customer’s purchases to improve his commissions. He denied taking any money for himself.

Strine posted a $4,000 bond pending a court hearing.
