End of the road today for Boardman roads chief

BOARDMAN — After 33 years working for the township, today is the last day on the job for Road Superintendent Larry Wilson.

Wilson told The Vindicator he is looking forward to seeing what life is like without having to go to work every day. He plans to spend the summer with his family, especially his 5-year-old grandson, then perhaps seek part-time work as a consultant.

But, he said, "If I retire and I feel like I really like it, I may do nothing."

Wilson has run the road department for the last 15 years. He started working for the township in 1983 and rose through the ranks over the years.

He will be succeeded by Marilyn Kenner, who has been working as assistant zoning inspector for the township since 2013 and who worked at the Mahoning County Engineer's office for 32 years.

Wilson described his time at the township as "fulfilling."

"In this day and age, a lot of people go from job to job. ... A lot of people don't get that opportunity to spend it [their career] all in one place," he said, describing himself as "very fortunate."
