Canton man gets prison term for beating ex-girlfriend in Liberty

Johnny L. King, 40, of Canton was sentenced to eight years in prison Wednesday for severely beating his ex-girlfriend at her Holly Drive apartment in Liberty this past spring.

The woman said King forced his way into her apartment April 21 and threatened to kill her and her daughter.

King punched her, kicked her and choked her, causing her to lose consciousness several times, she told police.

King pleaded guilty before Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to charges of domestic violence, kidnapping, felonious assault and burglary and received his sentence.

Liberty police responded about 2 a.m. to the apartment. Police heard a woman screaming and saw King grab her near her neck, they said.
