Shoots self in breast

WARREN

A woman, 20, of Milton Street Southeast, reported shooting herself in the breast at 3 a.m. Saturday at a house on Carolina Avenue Southeast.

The woman said she was watching television and reached to get something off the table in the living room and accidentally knocked a gun off the table. It went off when it hit the floor, and she noticed a bullet hole on the bottom of one breast.

When officers arrived, they saw a hole in the woman’s chest. A male, who lives at the address, called police.

The victim was transported to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Officers found the gun behind the table on the floor with five live rounds in the magazine and one spent shell casing in the chamber.

Wife says husband stabbed her with fork

AUSTINTOWN

Officers arrested a man for reportedly stabbing his wife with a fork after a verbal argument escalated.

According to the report, during an argument with his wife Sunday night, Ryan Powell, 32, of Melrose Avenue in Boardman, refused to let her leave the Inglewood Avenue residence. When she tried to leave anyway, Powell stabbed her in the stomach with a fork.

When officers asked Powell for his side of the story, he refused to talk about the evening, reports said.

Powell was arrested for domestic violence and taken to the Mahoning County jail. The victim refused medical treatment for her injuries.

Explosion inside International Steel

YOUNGSTOWN

A gas meter exploded inside International Steel and Counterweights off Crescent Street, causing a fire at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday. According to the Youngstown Fire Department, the explosion sent pieces of metal flying throughout the building, but no injuries were reported. A damage estimate was not available Tuesday.

Fire department personnel cleared the scene of the fire/explosion at 11:03, officials said.

Coitsville wells

COITSVILLE

Township trustees are seeking a meeting with Ohio Department of Natural Resources officials to discuss the future of injection wells in their township, according to a news release from Sonja Gilliam, township zoning secretary.

The depth of the well on U.S. Route 422 near the Purple Cat is being reduced to meet state standards, and that well is being plugged, according to ODNR officials.

Trustees are seeking more information on plans for that well and another injection well farther west near the Youngstown city line, the release says.

Injection wells are used for disposal of fluids, including oil field wastes.

ODNR regulates oil and gas drilling and related activities in Ohio.

Woman hit with brick

WARREN

A Leavittsburg woman reported a man came up from behind her and hit her in the head with a brick as she walked on North Park Avenue near Scott Street Northeast on Monday afternoon.

The 54-year-old woman said it happened at 12:30 p.m. She fell to the ground, she said, and the male tried to lift up the back of her shirt before fleeing the area. He was 18 to 20 years old, wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. He appeared to have a tear-drop tattoo on the side of his face, she said. The woman had a small cut on the back of her head.

She reported the incident at 11:22 p.m. Monday, after seeing the man at Circle K store on North Park about 11 p.m. The male fled on foot when she called police.

Pastor robbed

WARREN

Pastor Austin Shaw, 64, of Community Church of God in Christ, 310 Austin Ave. NW, was robbed by a young man wearing a handkerchief over his face and holding a handgun Sunday night at Shaw’s home next to the church.

The suspect called Shaw “Father,” said he knew he was a minister and asked for $50. Shaw said the male told him he “didn’t want to hurt anyone.” Pastor Shaw went to the kitchen and came back to the front door with $60 and gave it to him. The suspect left.

Bazetta road closing

BAZETTA

McCleary-Jacoby Road just north of Cadwallader-Sonk Road between Cadwallader Sonk and Quail Run Drive in the township will be closed for bridge repairs from Tuesday through July 15.

The recommended detour route is north on state Route 46, west on state Route 305 and south on McCleary Jacoby, according to a news release from the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office.

Levy meeting

NEW MIDDLETOWN

New Middletown Village Council will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. today at the municipal building, 10711 Main St., to address putting a levy on the ballot.
