Ikebana hosts flower exhibition

YOUNGSTOWN

Members of Ikebana Youngstown hosted an exhibition of Japanese flower designs in June at the D.D. Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek Park. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement that brings nature and humanity together.

Featured were 30 arrangements with Shoji screens providing background for the exhibits. The art of ikebana does not promote competition but beauty and harmony.

Creating the designs were Dana Babick, Sheila Bowman, Kaaren Cabraja, Marilyn Chiu, Mary Lou Flere, Cynthia Foust, Beverly Italiano, Nancy Kovach, Natalie Majoros, Lauren Mangino, Pearl Marlos and Sharon Swaney.

Ikebana Youngstown was founded in 1963 and is a member of the Garden Forum of Greater Youngstown Area Inc. Shirley Winkler of Saxonburg, Pa., a master Japanese instructor of the Ichiyo School, leads the group which meets the second Tuesday of the month unless otherwise indicated. Schedules are available through the Davis Center at 330-740-7112.
