BMV to take cards

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles says its deputy registrars will soon accept credit cards as payment, after years of people requesting that as an option.

By Friday, Ohioans at any of the 190 deputy registrar sites should be able to use credit cards for driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals and other transactions.

Previously, only checks and cash were accepted because the bureau hadn’t been allowed to pass along to customers the fees charged for using credit cards. State lawmakers changed those restrictions. BMV customers using credit cards now will be charged $1.25 or 1.95 percent, whichever is greater.

Area could be hub for new air industry

COLUMBUS

On the heels of the Federal Aviation Administration’s release of finalized rules for unmanned aircraft systems last week, state Rep. John Boccieri of Poland, D-59th, a military and commercial pilot, said the federal government’s support for innovation in this growing industry can help Northeast Ohio bolster its production and maintenance of aerospace technology.

The Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Committee, a state committee organized to help promote the aerospace industry, heard last Thursday from small businesses and manufacturers who envision Ohio as a thriving hub for unmanned aircraft research and production.
