YSU offices shuffled

If you haven’t been on Youngstown State University’s campus lately, some offices may not be where you remember them.
Several offices have changed locations this past spring, or are changing this summer.
“One of the driving reasons here is the creation of a student success center in Jones Hall, and the idea is to consolidate all of those services in one place to better serve students,” said Ron Cole, university spokesman.
YSU’s human-resources department moved from the third floor of Jones to the third floor of Tod Hall with other administrative offices.
The assessment, degree audit, general education and associate degree/technical prep programs on Tod’s third floor are moving to the third floor of Jones.
The new center will be named for Frank and Norma Watson of Canfield, who last month donated $1 million for its development. The couple are the in-laws of YSU President Jim Tressel.
“With the student success center, ultimately we envision a connection between Jones Hall and the Maag Library,” Cole said.
Fundraising is ongoing.
Other offices that were in Jones Hall are moving this summer.
The Division of Student Success is now on the third floor of Jones Hall.
The Division of Student Experience is now on the second floor of Kilcawley Center.
Career services moved from Jones’ first floor to the second floor of Kilcawley Center.
The Inclusion and Multicultural Affairs office moved from the second floor of Tod Hall to career services’ former quarters on the first floor of Jones. As part of that move, the Office of Student Diversity and Programs also moved from Kilcawley to Jones’ first floor.
Enrollment Planning and Management also moved from Tod’s first floor to its second floor.
Creative services changed locations and departments. It moved from media and academic computing in Cushwa Hall to become part of the Office of Marketing and Communications and to the first floor of Tod Hall, where the former Division of Student Affairs used to be housed.
Disability services moved from its Fifth Avenue location to 30 W. Wood St. on the edge of campus.
Cole said that’s a temporary location “as we’re still looking for a more-suitable location,” the spokesman said.
Smith Hall was demolished because of the construction of privately owned student apartments.
Parking services, which had been in Smith, have moved to the Fifth Avenue location formerly occupied by disability services.
Janitorial services formerly in Smith have moved to Cushwa Hall.
