Warrants expiring
DETROIT
General Motors Co. on Monday issued a reminder to warrant holders the company’s publicly traded Series A warrants are set to expire July 10.
Because the expiration date is not a trading day on the New York Stock Exchange, warrants will not be exercisable after the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s cutoff time for exercises July 8.
The warrants have been trading under the symbol NYSE: GM.WS.A, and originally were issued in July 2009. The NYSE has notified GM it will suspend trading in the warrants after the close of trading Friday so all trades can be settled by July 8.
As of June 24, there were approximately 11.7 million redeemable warrants outstanding. The warrants have an exercise price of $10 per share.
Leaders to pledge more reliance on renewable energy
WASHINGTON
The White House says the leaders of the United States, Canada and Mexico will pledge this week to rely on renewable energy to generate 50 percent of North America’s electrical power by 2025.
That’s a big jump from last year’s 37 percent level. But Brian Deese, senior adviser to the president says it’s doable through greater efficiency and reliance on solar, wind and other clean energy sources.
Obama will be meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico during Wednesday’s North American Leaders’ Summit in Ottawa.
AAA: July 4 travel will break records
Going out of town this Fourth of July weekend? Be prepared for a record-breaking amount of company.
Nationwide, 42.9 million people are expected to travel during the holiday weekend, up 1.3 percent from the record high that was set in 2007 and tied last year, according to the auto club.
The travel frenzy is being fueled by lower gas prices, as well as a growth in consumer confidence, Filomena Andre, AAA’s vice president for travel products and services, said in a statement.
Travelers could still run into long lines at airport security. This month, the head of the TSA said significant progress had been made on shortening waits by adding lines and staff.
Government officials have been urging travelers to sign up for TSA PreCheck, which allows fliers to use an expedited screening line if they first submit to a government background check. But the program has become inundated with applications, and it can take weeks to get an appointment to enroll.
