BOARDMAN
A Salem man and a Columbiana woman face a number of charges after a traffic stop on Market Street on Saturday, according to a police report.
Police stopped a white Chevrolet Camaro with an expired license plate and pulled over the driver, later identified as Erik Carlson, 26, of Salem-Grange Road, and his passenger, later identified as Allison Suggett, 23, of North Pearl Street.
According to the report, the vehicle gave off a strong odor of marijuana, and the officer searched the vehicle and the suspects.
The officer found a knife in Carlson’s pants, suspected marijuana, another knife in the vehicle, a handgun, separate loaded magazine, and an open container and several unopened alcoholic beverages.
Police gave Carlson a breath-analysis test that registered below the legal intoxication limit.
Carlson is charged with improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, carrying concealed weapons, drug abuse and possession of marijuana. Police also issued him a citation for having an open container of alcohol and having an expired license plate.
Suggett is charged with illegal use and possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug-abuse instruments, carrying concealed weapons and cited for not wearing a seat belt.
The two will appear in Mahoning County Area Court here at 8:30 a.m. today.
