A man who led police on a chase through the woods Monday morning with no shoes is in the Mahoning County jail on $35,000 bond after his arraignment in municipal court on charges of obstructing official business and aggravated burglary.
Reports said police were called to the 2800 block of Ridley Avenue on the city’s East Side about 2:25 a.m., where a woman told them her ex-boyfriend, Terrance Hymes, 26, also of Ridley Avenue, broke into her apartment after climbing through a window.
The woman told police she called 911 and that Hymes bit her before leaving, reports said.
As officers were responding, they saw a man, Hymes, who fit the description of the suspect, running away.
Officers searched the apartment that was supposed to be his and did not find him.
When he was spotted by police, however, he appeared to be running in the woods behind Mahoning County High School on Bryn Mawr Avenue.
Several police officers went into the woods and yelled for Hymes to surrender. He was caught when he tried to run into a different area of the woods but his progress was hampered because he had no shoes on, reports said.
Reports said he admitted to police he bit the woman.
Hymes also has an order barring him from contacting the victim.
