Good Grief camp set for July 24-29

The fifth year of Good Grief, a program for youth ages 8 to 15 who have lost a friend, relative or close family member, will take place July 24 to 29 at Camp Frederick, 6996 Millrock Road. The program is free.

Participants learn they are not alone in their grief and are able to bond with peers who are having similar experiences. The camp blends therapeutic activities teaching coping skills and challenge course activities which enhance confidence and build team skills with the fun and games of camp.

Ed Hallahan, an artist and instructor from the Butler Museum of American Art, and his wife, Jacqueline Mountan, Kids Grieve Too, lead art and craft activities. Jane Peachey, a licensed independent social worker with advanced bereavement facilitation training, is the director. She has 15 years of hospice work and more than 20 years working in the areas of grief and loss.

Camp Frederick is American Camp Association accredited and its summer counselors work with volunteers who facilitate groups and offer support.

The planning and support staff includes pastors, social workers, counselors, nurses, school psychologists and a youth minister.
